The only spoiler-free thing I’m going to say is that this movie was good and you should see it if you haven’t.
(Definitely spoilers aplenty ahead – you’ve been warned!)
I was asked “how was the movie” and “what’s it about” by a few people after seeing this movie on $5 movie Tuesday at AMC. My answer was that it was fucking hilarious but I have no idea how to explain what it was about. This is the kind of movie you watch both a little bit in fucking horror and disbelief yet can’t help but laugh at. You think, okay it’s sort of about dealing with life’s shit. Oh look Cash is doing better now… and… well they’re rebelling against evil and shit. And then it gets very… very… strange. Cash’s white voice is only enhanced by how it’s oddly dubbed and he doesn’t even look at people at all for like the first half of the movie. And then… and then the “jade door” (no that’s clearly OLIVE) happens and I don’t think I could have looked away from this movie if the theater had been engulfed in flames. Equisapiens!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! “We’re in so much pain!” Jesus. Christ. The movie ended and the only words I could come up with – since I was planted in my seat throughout the entire end credits – were “what the fuck was this movie?” It isn’t a secret, I like weird shit, but this was weird that was done well. Really well. I am pretty sure I’m going to watch this movie a second or third time around and I doubt it will be less than it was the first time. This was “can’t look away” level hilarity and nonsense. Sorry to Bother You definitely ranks on my Must Watch list! I think so far in 2018, the “Must Watch” movie list isn’t very long ( :cough: Incredibles 2 must see :cough: ), but this is definitely deserving of a place on it. It felt like a funny version of 10 Cloverfield Lane in its genre bending, what the fuck is happening next style (though it’s definitely not at all like 10 Cloverfield Lane – also a Must Watch incidentally for very different reasons). At the beginning of the movie, I absolutely did not see the ending coming. I really didn’t see the ending coming even by the end, it was just a building and building level of batshit crazy – the good kind (is there such a thing?).
